Garuda

We only have one body and its our own responsibility to bring out the best in it” James De Silva

Garuda focuses on exercising mindfully, with intention and attention brought into every movement to achieve optimum results.

In Indian mythology the Garuda is a large sacred bird that changes its form according to its function. This beautifully describes the Garuda system which is unique in its versatility, flexibility, flow and precision of movement.

Garuda incorporates many of the principles of Pilates and the pranayama of Yoga and the movement routines combine strength, flexibility, endurance and dynamism, coordinated with the breath.

Movements start small and either work from your centre to your extremities or visa versa. The creativity is underpinned by a strong anatomical focus with particular attention to fascial lines.

Exercises are varied to provide you with a challenging workout, whilst requiring mental focus and teaching you the principle of relaxation in movement.

Why I love Garuda

Garuda gives me flow and allows creativity. It promotes personal expression and fluidity in all my movements. I love how one exercise flows into the next by increasing the complexity or range of movement. I find the exercises challenging and yet respectful of my body’s architecture.
